Who We Are

The Hanoi International Women’s Club (HIWC) is a non-profit group whose membership is open to all expatriate women living in Vietnam. The objectives of the HIWC are to promote the development of social, charitable and cultural activities among its members, the Hanoi based expatriate community, and the people of Vietnam; and to provide a forum for expatriate women to identify and discuss issues of common interest regarding their personal and professional lives in Vietnam. Raising funds has always been at the forefront of all HIWC activities and the Annual Charity Bazaar has become a signature event of the Club, generating most of our charitable funds. These funds are used to finance our Community Aid Projects, which improve the lives of disadvantaged women and children, and small communities in Hanoi.

As the Chair person of the Community Aid Committee you would realise that I see some very sad sights around Vietnam, poverty, poor education, loss of hope, illness and overwhelming sadness. However my spirits are restored in other ways - by the kindness of those around me. The HIWC members who give so generously with gifts for charities at coffee mornings, those who volunteer their time when asked and particularly those friends, family and communities who 'give' to me when I am home in Australia or visiting our son in the UK. They know my story and want me to return to this place I know call home replenshed in spirit and ready to give again. They are generous in many ways. The local Abbottsfield Soccer Club in Sydney has sort of adopted Blue Dragon, and have been a huge supporter over the past 12 months Thanks to a generous baggage allowance with Vietnam Air I have bought back 100 pairs of soccer boots, 50 soccerballs, 20 new polar fleece boys tops, 15 new backpacks, shin guards for soccer boys, and the list goes on. They ask my daughter when I am in Sydney and 'bingo' at the front door are some more boxes of goodies. This is what restores my energy and spirit - this wonderful energy of others who support what I and many others do here in Hanoi. Thank you all. ... See MoreSee Less
